Ashford University has an old yet distinguished history. The academic institution, known previously as Mount St. Clare Academy, was first founded in 1893 in Clinton. In 1918, it became Mount St. Clare College through the support of the Sisters of St. Francis Assisi. In 1979, MSC was approved to award baccalaureate degrees in the field of Business Administration. In 2002, MSC was renamed as “The Franciscan University” and 2 years later, the University conferred its first Master’s degrees. In 2005, Bridgepoint Education Inc acquired The Franciscan University and subsequently changed it’s name to Ashford University. Despite the name changes, the thrust of the University has remained the same: “to provide accessible, affordable, innovative, high-quality learning opportunities and degree programs”.

They have an extensive range of degrees: 2 associate’s programs, over 40 bachelor’s and six master’s programs; all of these can be earned online.

Tuition for online courses vary depending on program. For undergraduate programs, the tuition per credit hour is $375.00. Post graduate programs cost more – between $480 and $540 per credit hour. Tuition excludes other miscellaneous costs such as books and other fees. Financial assistance, however, is readily available. Finance options include federal assistance through government grants, tuition reimbursement, veteran’s benefits, military assistance, cash plan, direct bill plans and private loan plans.
