University of Phoenix Online
The University of Phoenix was founded by John Sperling in 1976 to cater to working adults who wish to have access to higher education. It provides its educational programs through various campuses and learning centers located in at least forty (40) states and several foreign countries. It also uses the online portal to offer online programs to students worldwide while providing access to important resources such as an electronic library, textbooks, learning materials and software required for the assigned coursework.
The university is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and holds special accreditations for a variety of its degree programs. Based on the 2009 Online Education Database Ranking, the university placed 28th out of 44 Best Accredited Online Universities. It is comprised of four (4) colleges namely the John Sperling School of Business and Technology; the Artemis School for art, education and health field programs; the School of Advanced Studies for doctoral programs; and the Axia College for its associate degrees.
Online programs lead to associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. These programs are offered in various areas of study including Arts and Sciences, Business and Management, Criminal Justice and Security, Education, Human Services, Nursing and Health Care, Psychology and Technology. A personal team of advisors assists students in scheduling classes, finding financial aid options and making sure that students stay on track academically. A technological team helps students in resolving technical issues related to online study.
Tuition rates vary depending on the degree program. Details can be verified by speaking with an enrollment advisor. Prospective students can estimate cost of attendance by multiplying the cost per credit hour and the number of credits required for the chosen degree program and providing for associated fees. Financial aid comes in the form of tuition reimbursement, private loans, cash plans and federal financial aid. Admissions requirements likewise vary per program.
